Imperial Marrakech Tour
Marrakech Tour
The city of Marrakech, often called the Red City, is one of Morocco’s most fascinating destinations. Founded in 1062 by the Almoravid dynasty, it holds the privilege of being an imperial city and has played a central role in the country’s history. In fact, Morocco was once known as the “Kingdom of Marrakech,” a reminder of the city’s influence and prestige.
Marrakech reached its peak under the Berber dynasties of the Almoravids in the 11th century and the Almohads in the 12th century, who left behind monumental works such as the Kutubia Mosque and elegant gardens. The Almohads extended their empire from the Sahara to the Ebro River in Spain, and from the Atlantic coast to Tunisia, with Marrakech as their jewel.
Today, Marrakech is not only a historical treasure but also a vibrant metropolis—considered the cultural and tourist capital of southern Morocco. Unlike Fez, which reflects scholarly tradition and spirituality, Marrakech represents energy, diversity, and the magic of Berber heritage.
The Visit of Marrakech
The Kutubia Mosque
Known as the “mosque of the booksellers,” the Kutubia is Marrakech’s most emblematic monument. Its 70-meter-high minaret dominates the skyline and served as inspiration for the Giralda of Seville and the Hassan Tower of Rabat. Built by the Almohads in the 12th century, it is a masterpiece of Hispano-Moroccan architecture.
The Majorelle Garden
Created by French painter Jacques Majorelle, this botanical garden is one of the city’s main attractions. It gathers exotic plants, bamboo groves, and palm trees collected from across the world. Revived by fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent in 1980, the villa and gardens feature the iconic Majorelle Blue color and today house a museum of Berber art.
Jemaa el-Fna Square & the Medina
The heart of Marrakech beats in Jemaa el-Fna Square, a UNESCO heritage site alive with storytellers, snake charmers, musicians, and food stalls. Surrounding it, the labyrinthine Medina is a treasure of souks, traditional workshops, and riads, offering an authentic glimpse of Moroccan daily life.
